Tuesday's with Nanny

On Tuesday's now, since Madeleine has started preschool Emilia and I have had lunch at Nanny's house. This afternoon while I was washing dishes I heard Emilia and Nanny playing together in the living room. I knew I had to get it on video. My girls are so blessed to have their almost 97 year old great-grandma around!

Scrub-a-dub-dub!

I've been addicted to Pintrest for a while now and I've committed to not just pinning but actually following through with what I pin. For me the easiest things to do have been the cleaning tips. Tonight after dinner I washed the dishes, wiped down the counter tops, scrubbed the stove top and then became motivated to do more. So I logged into Pintrest and pulled up a page I had pinned earlier.

(I already washed them off with Formula 409)

Fill a bowl with hot soapy water and soak cloth

Sprinkle baking soda over stove top

Wring out wet towels and lay on top of baking soda for 15 minutes

Wearing gloves scrub stove top, dry and windex

Now I have to admit that after I finished scrubbing I was very skeptical. It really did not appear to me that the stove top was all that much cleaner. I did have to take a knife to some of the carbonized residue but over all the stove top is a LOT cleaner!!!

In 2011 I took 26 photo session. Of those photo sessions 16 of them were between the month of October and November. And all but 4 of those 16 were for Christmas cards/gifts.

For each photo session I take an average of 250 photos in about 45 mins to an hour. I then go through all the photos and crop or delete the image. I then go through the remaining images and and enhance an average of 40 images and some of them as many as 4x. As you can imagine the process is very time consuming. My best guess is that each session takes me about 8 hours to complete. Since being a mommy is my full time job I typically edit photos from 8:30pm until 11pm when my girls are in bed.

So all this is being said because in order to continue providing clients with a large variety of quality photos I am going to adjust some of my pricing and policies

1. With the exception of "birth" day and "newborn" photos all sessions will take place outdoors. (unless I decide to invest in a backdrop etc)

2. Payment (cash/check) is due at the session

3. There will be an additional $10 charge for non-newborn sessions scheduled during the months of October and November

4. NO sessions will be scheduled between November 20, 2012 and Jan 2, 2013, as well as from the day I give birth (due date 7/18/12) and through Aug 13, 2012

5. Prices are as follows:
Maternity- $50
Newborn( recommended before 2 weeks) - $50
Child/Children - $50 up to 2 kids, $10 for each additional child
Family - $65 per family unit, additional units $25 each
Senior - $50
Engagement - $50 (unless included with wedding package)
Wedding - $1300 (includes two shooters)
"birth" day - TBD

6. Save 20% on packages after two a year

7. No weddings Nov-Feb

8. I started offering my services so families who may not have been able to afford professional, quality photos could have them at a fair price. If at any time you can not afford my rate please do not hesitate to talk to me!

9. I often get asked about Mother's Day photos for the Sunday news. If you are interested please e-mail me. I am hoping to schedule some back to back mini-sessions at a low rate and then you would just be responsible for submitting them to the paper

The Magic of Falling Snow

Those who know me, know I am not a fan of winter or snow. I am a flip-flop and Bermuda shorts girl. I love the beach and all things summer. So you can imagine my excitement when I heard there was snow in the forecast for October. Madeleiene was so excited this morning when it started to snow, "Christmas!!" she proclaimed as she looked out our sliding doors. And then it started. The girl who like her mother didn't like being cold started to ask to go outside and build a snowman. Her excitement was so precious and I promised her that after she woke up from her nap we'd go outside. Secretly, I only wanted to go out for a few minutes and attempt to get a Christmas card photo of the girls.

In the meantime to keep her focused on something other than the pending fun outside I decided to have her help me make pumpkin bread. She was trilled. Madeleine LOVES helping me bake!!

So while Eric laid on the floor (this is typically how he spends at least half his day and the reason he won't let me get HW floors) the girls and I baked bread

So after the bread was in the oven the girls took their nap while I edited pictures and got to smell the house filling up with the smell of baking pumpkin bread. Madeleine woke up first and cuddled with me before asking to read her new book from her preschool library. Then Emilia woke up and I gave both girls some pumpkin bread. It didn't take Madeleine long to remember that I promised we'd go outside after nap. So after finishing their snack I bundled the girls up and out we went. Madeleine loved that her boots made footprints in the snow and Emilia was all smiles even after falling in the snow and getting wet several times. Both girls thought it was hilarious when I taught them how to catch snow flakes in their mouths. We stayed out for quite some time just walking up and down the snow covered community path beside our home, making footprints and catching snowflakes. Maybe next time we'll attempt a snowman. There was something magical about being outside with the girls today. I can honestly say I loved watching the snowflakes fall from the sky.

Sometimes you hear what you know in your heart is true but it still stabs you in the heart like a knife.

I have been doing a lot of thinking the past few days. Like not just every day thinking but deep thinking. Today I was at an orientation and they showed a video that asked simply, "What are you passionate about?" As I read the question, it was a video you had to read, I felt all the emotions just come to the surface. I knew the answer and it had NOTHING to do with where I was.

On Sunday, I caught the last few minutes for 60 minutes and they were talking about how the i-pad is giving a voice to autistic children/adults who have never been able to communicate before. I watched as the children were able to express themselves and I cried!

I am passionate about those kids! I am passionate about my inner city kids!

For the past two years I have gone to NYC at Christmas time. Its become my new tradition. I love Christmas and I love NYC so it only makes sense. This year I had decided I wouldn't go but the past few days, after I broke out the Christmas music, I have started to question that decision. I may have to revisit it.

Sometimes I wonder how some people in live such a fictional life. Its sad when I know the truth about their life more than them, or at least I think I do. Then truth is spoken into your own life. And its something so real that you recognize it as truth but at the same time its something you've thought and re-thought a million times.

I had one of my favorite photo shoots the other week. I can't say it was my favorite because the pictures are so much better than any other I've taken but every picture I have enhanced has made me smile. I shouldn't be surprised that a good person like him ended up with such a great family and well behaved kids. Which then leads me to my next thoughts about where my youth went? Like I feel like a chunk of it is a blur.

Dont Judge Me!

Last week my oldest daughter started preschool. I had debated a long time last spring about where and if I wanted to send Madeleine to preschool in the fall. Ultimately I decided that although Madeleine is a very smart little girl she could really benefit from social time with peers. I also decided to send her to the preschool at our church, despite the 40 minute drive there twice a week, because Madeleine would be familiar with the building and the curriculum was Christ based which I was a HUGE fan of. On Tuesday when I picked her up I was positive I made the right decision for my little girl. Madeleine couldn't stop talking about her picture she had made and the songs she had sung. She talked and sang half of the way home until falling asleep. Oh how I love her!!!

And I almost forgot. Madeleine already knows two bible verses "The Lord God made all Genenis 2:9" and "God made the world and everything in it" (she doesnt know the reference to this one yet but its Acts 17:24)

Madeleine going to preschool has also helped me establish a more regular schedule for our family. I have developed a cleaning schedule to go along with my bi-weekly/monthly menus. I am also developing a more regular exercise plan, which is vital since I currently am not training for any races and really lack motivation to run. Today after cleaning the bathrooms I was inspired by another blog to clean my washing machine, oven hood and refrigerator.

Please dont judge when you look at the before pictures of the washer. Seriously it was as nasty as it looks. It hasnt been thoroghly cleaned since we moved in 3 years ago. Fear not though I am aspiring to be a better me.

I filled the washer with 2 cups of white vinegar and water and let sit for an hour.

Than I ran the cycle and added 1 cup of bleach to water and finished the cycle.

And then there is Miss Emilia. I dont want to forget her. She's been soaking up the mommy time shes been getting while her big sister is in school but is always eager to see Madeleine when we pick her up. I love that they are best friends!! Emilia is growing up so quickly. Shes a happy little girl unless shes hungry. She knows several words including Elmo, mama, cup, up, more and cracker. What else does a girl need to know?!?

In a previous post I mentioned that I have been busy lately! So I thought I'd update everyone on 3 of the more fun things I have been working on lately.

First I am addicted to pintrest but am determined that not only and I going to fill up my boards but I am going to actually make and create the things I am posting. First on my list was laundry detergent. I was pleasantly surprised with how easy this actually was. They didnt lie when they said I could find all the ingredients in my local grocery store and once home it took less than 5 minutes to make. I was still skeptical about whether or not this homemade, cost-effective detergent would actually work but I am pleased to annouce that it even cleans Eric's work clothes.

These are the 3 ingredient you need to purchase

Its just that easy!!

Besides saving $$ I have been earning some $$ doing something I love, taking pictures of new babies! In the month of August and September so far I have had 3 new baby boys to take pictures of. I have one session yet to finish but here are some favorites from the other sessions.

And then my other major project right now has been creating a tent. I originally thought up the grandiose plan to set up a vintage photo session with a tent etc and charge a bit more than my normal rates in an attempt to raise $$ to send myself to Africa. I have since reconsidered the whole thing but still plan on finishing the tent for a prop in other sessions. I am about 3/4 finished and just have to piece together the second side and clean up everything. I still havent decided about putting a back on it because I think i might just like the slight unfinished work. We will see.

Mud Run

Several months ago my sisters convinced me to do a mud run with them! After looking at the website and the obtacles I was so excited and registered. What could be better than running a 10k with obstacles and MUD?!?

Today we ran the beautiful nad EXTREMLY FUN race!! Seriously I'd do this race again in a heart beat!! I came in with a time of 1:07:21 which was 49th in my age division. The top runner in my division had a time of 47:22.

I've been busy lately! Recently, I have had several inquiries about photo sessions and completed 3 in the past 3 week with another one scheduled for Friday (newborn pics, perhaps my favorite!!) As of now I am booked until mid-September with the exception of new babies that need to be photographed right away!

I have also been busy around the house and with the girls. Last, Thursday my mother-in-law called to say she had green beans from her garden for us and my grandma also had several that we were able to pick. The following day I blanched and froze about 6 cups of beans! Its a small amount but it will make a difference this winter! There are more to come this week :)

Saturday, my sisters, dad, the kiddos and I hit the Conewago Trail in Hershey and ran/ biked 8.25 miles, stopped for icecream at the Jigger Shop and than ran/biked back. I ran 13 miles of the total trip and biked the rest. My the end of the night my body was less than thrilled with me but by the next morning I felt great!!!! So good infact that I bought a bike off craigslist on Sunday and am hoping to go more often with Eric and the girls.

Sunday night we went to Rawlinsville Camp Meeting for the Naval Academy Band. I love being at camp and spending time with wonderful friends!! Its also so much fun to see our children becoming friends!! At camp Amy hooked me up with some peppers and zucchini from her parents garden (FYI: I dont turn down free food)! So Monday morning I chopped and froze about 4 cups of green peppers and grated and froze 10 cups of zucchini. Madeleine has been asking me at least once a day now since last week for "bread that mommy made" as a snack. Luckily for her Amy loved her mommy and she can have it all winter long :)

Monday afternoon the girls and I went over to my friend Lauren's house to go swimming with her, her son Matthew and friend April and her daughter Adriana. The girls and I had so much fun and the heat and water made for some tired little girls!

I am loving summer and all it has to offer!

I've been domestic lately! Its summer which means it that one time of the year we have great fresh food available to us locally and I am trying to make the most of it. Last week I decided that we were going to have kabobs and corn on the cob for dinner. Because we have a charcoal grill, I NEVER grill but thankfully Eric had the day off and was willing to do some grilling for me. I put the cute little kabobs together and Eric made sure they cooked well on the grill, YUMMY!

Then we went over to Eric's uncles house on Sunday for a July 4th picnic. Eric's aunt sent us home with zucchini. So since I am not a fan of fresh zucchini, I did the only other thing I know to do with zucchini, bake bread with it. Even YUMMIER that the kabobs was the warm zucchini bread. I used a recipe from a lady at church and just added some flax seed to it. ( I add flax seed to lots of randome things, including mac n cheese). It was amazingly good!

After making the bread, I found out from my dearest friend, Amy, that you can grate and freeze zucchini for breads in the future so with my remaining zucchini, I did just that! Next time Aunt Kitty offers me zucchini I will be taking more than four :)

Finally, I had to repair the holes in the Eric's work pants. Here's where things start to get sad. First of all, I AM not a sewer. I do own a sewing machine, but it spends 99% of its time in its orignal box. Secondly, many of you will look at these pants and say "Megan, go buy new ones" but here in the Rohrer household we have to save $$ where we can and these pants have not made it to there life expectancy point. Believe it or not (if you know Eric you'll believe it) my huband has marked the purchase date inside his work pants and he has developed a schedule for when they can be replaced. I think they have to make it 10 years. Not sure but that's the date I have in my mind. Anyway, these pants are not there yet so out came my sewing machine and away I went.

Uncomfortable beds

We just got back from several days at the beach with my family. It was a nice time to spend with Eric, the girls and my family. I was so proud of Madeleine who started the trip terrified of the ocean and then conquered her fear and was jumping waves mid-week. There were even a couple of times she swallowed some ocean water but kept going. I loved sharing those moments with her. Emilia was also amazing as she really has no fear of anything and is happy go lucky. She just loves life!

My only complaint about the whole time at the beach was the beds. Oiy! Everynight despite my exhaustion I had to convince myself to go to sleep. I actually debated the first night if the floor was more comfortable. It was rough!!! Amazingly, despite the hard mattresses when I did finally fall asleep I was able to sleep deep enough to dream. And boy did I dream. One night inparticular I was thrown off by the characters, locations and situations in my dream. I dreampt of people I hadn't seen or thought about in years. And my dreams were so vivid, taking me back to my teenage years. Its amazng how things change so much over the years. Friendships come and go, priorities shift and sometimes they do so without warning leaving unanswered questions. My dream on the worlds worst mattress has left me wondering how an old friend is doing. And despite my awesome stalking skills I am left with little information and for me that leaves me with an odd void right now. Maybe one that was always there and i didnt know exsisted.

From time to time we reminiss on the good ole' days. Silly things we did in the name of love. Poor choices made. Feelings felt. Things unsaid. I loved my teenage years. I had the wonderful friends and experiences! So thankful for them all and where I am today. Just leaves me with some questions, perhaps best left unanswered.

I suck at blogging..

So its true, I suck at blogging! I am not sure why I am so bad at it. Maybe I feel as if the mundane things of my life are of no interest to others. Some of it is a lack of time and blogging simply not being a prioity but here I am again going to give it a whirl.

Initally, I started this blog to display my photography as a way of gaining exposure and attracting new clients. This past January I was diagnosed with Iritis and suffered for almost 3 months with the side effects of the disease. It was VERY frustrating for me to go from a very hands on mom and wife to totally dependant and exhausted.At its worst points I was often found curled up in the fetal position crying as a result of the extreme pain and not being able to play with my children who were not use to seeing their mommy in such a helpless state. The 3 months left me no longer passionate about photography. While I still love taking pictures of my family I am no longer interested in pursueing photography as a career. That being said I am still booking photo sessions but on a much more limited basis. And I am no longer doing weddings. Weddings, while fun, were just a lot more work than this full time stay at home mom wishes to do again.

I now see this blog as a way of talking about what is going on with my family and I. I think there will be entries about things we are doing, things we are eating, new ideas I have about how we should be living and topics of that nature. I am hoping to also be able to blog about money/spending, crafts, organization or lack of organization, selling/buying a home, and traveling. At the beginning of the year I had started a blog to talk about my new year's resolutions and once again failed to update it. When I get inspired from time to time I will also be addressing those resolutions. As a side note some of those resolutions were rather BIG goals but I am proud to say I am doing well on two particuar goals, the reading through the Bible and weight loss. :)

On father's day, one of my husbands best friends became a daddy. I was so excited to meet Little Adriana on July 4th. Its amazing how quickly you forget how small they are when the are born. Adriana's birth weight was 6 ounces less then Madeleine but she seemed so incredibly small! Here are some pictures of that I captured for the new parents!!!

A few weeks ago my dear friend Kait had me take pictures of her sons at my home. Ryan, her youngest had just turned 1 and we needed to document this wonderful event. I have been fortunate enough to photograph her oldest son since birth. Someday, I will have to post my favorite pictures of Collin growing up. There are so many to choose from. Last week, I got the chance to photograph Jack days after his second birthday. This was my second time photographing him and his older sister. While Jack is challenging to photograph due to his age I love his facial expressions and little words that come out of his mouth. He's such an adorable kid!!! His sister, Elle, is equally as precious and very photogenic. She loves having her picture taken and it shows!

In December, I had the opportunity to shoot my first wedding. The couple was friends of some friends. I was a bit nervous not only because it was my first wedding but because it was indoors and I feel I lack a lot of the lighting equipment to get the best shots. Last Saturday, we ventured out in the FREEZING cold to capture some engagement pictures for family friends Lindsey and Justin. I am going to have the awesome opportunity to take their wedding photos in August!! We went to Limevalley, where my mom grew up. The previous week she had mentioned seeing a swing hanging off the willow tree by the creek. It was perfect. Lindsey and Justin were easy going and great to work with! Hope you all enjoy the
